The truth about Madelyn Cline’s parents and Personal life

Madelyn Cline is one of the stars of the new Netflix hit Outer Banks. The show has been compared to The O.C. and Riverdale, and that should give you an insight into what it’s all about. Outer Banks has smoking hot teens, steamy relationships, a murder mystery, and Madelyn’s character is right in the middle of it.

Cline has gained acclaim for how she’s portrayed the role of Sarah, and so fans were excited when the producers revealed that Outer Banks could run up to season 4 or 5. This piece will look at Madison’s parents and how they helped her cope with tough times as an aspiring actor. It will also look at the connections Madelyn has created with her cast mates and how she plans to use her voice to engage in activism.

Madelyn’s mom helped convince Madelyn’s dad to let her try out acting

Madelyn Cline was born on 21st December 1997 in Charleston, South Carolina. Her dad is an engineer who works with the Charleston Water System, and her mom is a real estate agent. Madelyn went to Charleston Day School and Pinewood Preparatory School before joining Coastal Carolina University. Throughout her time in school, she was interested in acting and took part in advertisements and modeling for brands such as T-Mobile and Sunny D.

Cline decided to move to LA to pursue an acting career during her time in college. She’d saved up enough money to move to California and called her mom to ask for her blessing. Madelyn’s mom helped convince her dad to let Madelyn pursue her passion. She told Glamour:

“So, I called my mom and said, ‘Hey, are you sitting down?’ And I told her, ‘You know what? I know this is what you guys want me to do, but it’s not what I want to do, so I’m doing to drop out and I’m going to move out to LA and I don’t need help, but I just would wish for your support.’ And she just said, ‘All right, I’ll handle your dad.’”

Madelyn moved to LA, and she has been living there ever since. She considers LA as her home, but she retains a lot of love for Charleston. Outer Banks is based in North Carolina, but a controversial law in North Carolina forced the producers of the show to film in South Carolina. The show’s setting helped Madelyn reconnect with a city she left years ago. She told V Magazine:

“I think personally, I fell in back in love with where I’m from, Charleston. Shooting a show and a love story in that whole ecosystem with the most amazing people, our cast and crew, I fell back I love with that area because I was so in love with the project.”

Madelyn used her parents’ advice to get through the tough times she experienced as actor

Madelyn expected LA to be tough, but she didn’t expect it to be as difficult as it was for her to land roles. She lived with aspiring actors, and she had to watch them get parts while she barely got past auditions. Madelyn didn’t have an agent, and it contributed to her struggles.

To make matters worse, she didn’t have enough money to go back to South Carolina, and she had to live in her car for a couple of weeks. Madelyn’s parents didn’t support her decision to try out acing, but without knowing it, they helped their daughter negotiate the tough times. When raising Madelyn, they loved using the phrase, ‘If you ain’t wrecking, you ain’t racing.’

Cline used this motto to motivate herself whenever the going got tough. She told Glamour:

“When I first moved out, we were living in this jail house apartment complex and we ended up getting bedbugs, my roommate and I were living out of our cars for two weeks, and that was on top of just not auditioning. In those moments I just kept telling myself ‘If you ain’t wrecking, you ain’t racing, baby!’”

She channeled her teenage experiences to better portray the role of Sarah

Sarah in Outer Banks is part of a group of wealthy teens who gets romantically involved with a boy from a rival group of teens from working-class families. Cline feels that one of the main reasons why she portrayed Sarah so well was because she resonated with her character’s struggles. Madelyn told Elle Canada:

“What really drew me into her was tapping into insecurities and empathizing with her as a person. It was about going back to that 16-year-old self that I recognized in her. That blossomed, and I found a lot of myself in her and I was able to bring that to screen and find my truth in that. To put that much of myself into a character and into a project that meant so much to me was a dream.”

The producers of the show also allowed the actors to contribute to character development, and it helped Madelyn better portray Sarah’s character, especially during the emotional scenes at the end of the first season.

Madelyn has found the friends she’s always wanted in her Outer Banks co-stars

Madelyn and actors such as Deion Smith and Nick Cirillo knew each other before appearing on Outer Banks, but they were the only people familiar to Madelyn. As time went by, Madelyn and her co-stars got to know each other, and they are now the best of friends. Madelyn told Glamour that she feels safe and at home with her Outer Banks co-stars. She said:

“I’ve never been surrounded by more supportive, talented, and equally ambitious people in my life. I’ve noticed, because of them, LA’s become home to me. They are my community and it’s amazing that we all get to share this. Home is where you have those people who are constantly pushing you to better yourself, for your career and for other people.”

Cline is currently quarantined with some of her cast mates in her apartment complex in LA. Their daily activities include binge-watching shows and playing games. Madelyn is relieved that she has her co-stars around because she finds it hard to maintain effective communication via her phone. She told Glamour that she prefers face to face communication rather than connecting via phone. Madelyn said:

“For me, connecting through a phone, it’s a quick fix, if you can’t see them and it’s always important to keep up with people and let them know you’re okay, but for me, I’m definitely a face-to-face person, I prefer to have my conversation face-to-face, I prefer that connection – that is not something you really have in 2020.”

She plans to use her voice to engage in environmental activism

Madelyn Cline has become a global star after the release of Outer Banks. On 14th April, she had about 6K followers on Instagram, and three weeks later, she has 1.6 million followers. Madelyn plans to use her fame and voice to impact the world positively. One of the things that she is passionate about is environmental conservation.

Cline loves the ecosystem in South Carolina, and she hopes that she and Outer Banks can help sensitize people on the importance of being kind to the environment. Madelyn talked V Magazine about her goal:

“Whatever I want to do, I want to make a difference. Whether it be to five people or five thousand people, I want to try and make a difference. Whether that be starting conversations about environmental conversation or taking part in being a voice for people who don’t have a voice, I just want to help people however I can.”
